Taeniopgia guttata; Commonly called the Zebra Finch. This species of bird comes from Australia. It exists in the wild in several different color variations. They have become so widely kept and bred in captivity amongst bird fanciers, that the color variations now available from breeders are truly mind boggling
This particular picture shows a male Silver Isabelle with his recently fledged babies. They are just a terrific little bird to watch as they busy themselves with nest building, and family raising. Be prepared however, they are quite prolific!
PHOTOS OF SOME FAVORITES
Below is a recently acquired Black Face, Black Breast male Zebra Finch. Haven't found the right female to breed with this guy yet.
This is a pair of Crested Fawn Self finch's. These guy's are just plain cute! You have got to love that hairdo. We are hoping to breed some more of these terrific looking birds.
Here is another one of the Crested Fawn Self's sharing a perch with one on my favorites. The bird on the left is an Owl Finch (Poephila bichenovi). Showing a need for a beak trim, this is an unsexed young bird. We have two, and will eventually end up with a sexed pair to breed.
Here is a close up of one of the Crested Self's. Very "sheik" hair-do on this girl ( at least we hope this one is a girl.) Time will tell, as we would love to breed these birds.
These two bachelors are waiting for mates. Although the Lonchura malacca, or Tricoloured Munia ( in the back )will probably not be bred. As soon as a mate is found for the Poephilia acuticauda, or Shaft Tail Grass Finch, we hope he will breed.
